‘The Ranges’ development, which initially comprised 73 accommodation units and associated amenities, is managed and operated by Best Western Plus for short term tourist accommodation. Situated at the base of Karratha Hills, ‘The Ranges’ is proximate to the Karratha Town Centre (north) and Industrial Estate (south). Recognising the site’s strategic positioning on De Witt Road, the main entry into Karratha from the North West Coastal Highway, the proposal aimed at providing accommodation that will be attractive to both seasonal tourists and also key service works and white-collar workers who require short term accommodation in Karratha.

element was appointed to provide expert planning services to secure project development approvals for the Stage 2 expansion of ‘The Ranges’ short-term tourist accommodation, which comprised an additional 430 accommodation units and associated amenities. The proposal comprised an architecturally designed village with the capacity to accommodate a diverse range of occupants either on a short term or permanent basis.

The proposal was successful in obtaining development approval from the Regional JDAP as an ‘Accommodation Resort’ land use, as defined under ‘The Ranges’ Development Plan. This enabled the units to be conditionally occupied by a wide market sector including long term residents, tourists, transient workers, key workers and business travellers.
