The Project

Day Cottage is located in the emerging Rockingham Industrial Estate being developed by Hesperia. It is anticipated that a full range of industrial uses will be accommodated in the estate, which is likely to entail construction of a new access road, workshops and large scale industrial buildings. Day Cottage is a small former residence with outbuildings contained within this larger surrounding site. As a requirement of the development, a Heritage Agreement was required between our client and the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (DPLH). To enable this process, an updated Conservation Management Plan (CMP) was also required.

Our Role

element was appointed to provide heritage advice and assist in the development of a draft Heritage Agreement between the client and DPLH. To facilitate this process, we were commissioned to prepare an updated CMP to inform the ongoing management of the heritage values of the place during proposed development of the surrounding sites.

We documented the current condition and developed schedules of recommended conservation and maintenance works that will form part of the Heritage Agreement and assist in the future adaptive reuse of the place.

Outcomes

element provided ongoing heritage advice throughout the project. We completed a CMP and liaised with DPLH to develop a draft Heritage Agreement for signing. This will ensure that the heritage values of this significant heritage property will be retained within the surrounding new subdivision and development.
