The Project

The Heritage Skills Association WA secured funding for a pilot training project to be undertaken at the Collie Goods Shed, which involved conservation works using traditional heritage techniques and materials. The aim of the project was to develop and trial a heritage skills training model within current accredited training courses through a practical, on-site construction project.

Our Role

element was appointed as heritage consultants to provide ongoing heritage advice and assistance throughout the duration of the pilot project. We undertook a condition assessment and documented the required conservation works for the place, prioritising trades packages to facilitate the requirements of the pilot project through traditional heritage training and education.

During the Contract Administration stage of the project element attended site visits to provide heritage advice specific to the documented conservation works and assisted the project team with the education and training of students.

Outcomes

element assisted our client along with the project team and contractor to achieve a successful pilot project for the Heritage Skills Association WA. The conservation works to the Collie Goods Shed were undertaken to a high standard. We facilitated engagement with the community and students throughout, and presented to stakeholders during the works and after completion to outline the success of the pilot project and assist in securing future funding for the organisation.
