The Project

element assisted with lodgement of a development application on a time critical project to deliver accommodation for a short-term construction workforce. Owing to the scale and nature of the proposed accommodation, the application required a social impact assessment to address assumptions relevant to the likely impacts of the development proposal on the local community, and potential direct, indirect and cumulative impacts. To ensure a smooth and timely consideration of the proposed development, upfront engagement with relevant stakeholders was undertaken as a safeguard, designed to accorded generally with the requirements set under City of Karratha Local Planning Policy DP-20.

Our Role

The project team worked closely with the client, local government and key stakeholders to ensure cost-effective and timely delivery of the development lodgement. The role of engagement in this project was the creation of a community and stakeholder engagement plan and a social impact assessment to assist the preparation and lodgement of a development application for planning approval.

Outcomes

Consultation with City staff, and in particular with the Manager Planning Services (as the Responsible Policy Officer) was a critical step to secure agreement on the steps for impact mitigation.

A Social Impact Assessment report and Social Impact Management Plan was appended to the development application, which included community benefit, identified as suitable during stakeholder and community engagement.
