Carmel is a cultural heritage professional and highly experienced historian and writer. Her strong contextual knowledge supports a wide range of heritage work providing inspiration, understanding and new insight. She advocates for consultation with Traditional Owners in all projects, to provide a deeper understanding of our history and cultural heritage. Carmel was the inaugural Chair of element’s first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) working group, and drove the company’s first RAP in 2021. She continues to serve on the RAP committee.
Carmel has extensive experience in undertaking historical research for conservation management plans, interpretation, thematic histories, local heritage surveys and heritage assessments. She is a member of the Professional Historians Association of Australia, as well as a qualified librarian with expert skills in archival and digital research.
