Alana is a passionate heritage professional with a background in Architecture who believes that understanding and engaging with cultural heritage is a vital component in developing successful places and communities. She is a keen researcher and understands the importance of investigating the history, development and significance of historic places to ensure their appropriate care, ongoing management, and future potential.
During her professional career she has had the opportunity to work in both private practice, education, and the public sector, assisting in the delivery of a diverse range of projects from contemporary and conservation focused architectural work to cultural heritage engagement programs and research projects.
Alana is inspired by places of rich cultural diversity having travelled extensively and spent time studying and living in both Athens and the United Kingdom. She believes that the best developments communicate a well realised intersection between place and cultural values, contemporary design and functional needs, citing projects such as the WA Museum Boola Bardip and the East Fremantle Post Office as successful examples of this approach.
Alana has experience across a diverse range of heritage projects including the provision of design and on site advice, involvement in conservation and adaptive reuse works, and in the preparation of Conservation Management Plans and Strategies, Heritage Impact Statements, Development Applications, Archival Records, Interpretation Plans and Strategies, Concept and Feasibility Designs, Architectural Documentation, Heritage Planning Policies and Design Guidelines.
She is currently completing a Diploma of Project Management and is the Australia ICOMOS Executive Committee WA State Representative and Young and Emerging Professionals Co-ordinator.
