WA Museum Conservation Management Strategy

STATE GOVERNMENT | Perth, WA

THE
PLACE

One of the most significant museum redevelopments in the world today, the New Museum for Western Australia will share stories of Western Australia’s people and places. The project will showcase heritage conservation and contemporary architecture side by side in the heart of the Perth Cultural Centre.

OUR
ROLE

Appointed by the design team led by HASSELL+OMA we are the heritage architects for the New Museum for Western Australia. Our role is to identify conservation works required to respect the cultural heritage value and character of the individual heritage buildings, while meeting the brief for a bold contemporary design.

OUTCOMES

We played an active role in the early design competition process and provided critical inputs for development approvals including heritage impact statements and stakeholder engagement. We have prepared an Interpretation Plan, Conservation Management Strategy and Heritage Works Specification for each of the four heritage buildings and continue to provide advice and oversee works to ensure the detailed design and delivery phase is sympathetic to the heritage fabric.
