Place and Tourism Development Strategy
SOUTHERN FOREST FOOD COUNCIL | Southern Forests Region, WA
The Southern Forests Region, incorporating the towns of Manjimup, Pemberton, Walpole and Northcliffe, is home to an abundance of fruits and vegetables, truffles and boutique produce, dairy and cattle farms, as well as award-winning wineries, and exceptional culinary experiences. The challenge is to attract further investment to grow the value of agriculture, create jobs, promote community pride and ultimately put the region on the map as a culinary tourism destination.
Working collaboratively as part of an agency alliance, element’s role was to integrate place making into the development of a Southern Forests Region place brand by building on existing strengths and aspirations and improving how it functions from a visitor perspective. This included detailed place, product and partnership audits, strategic planning, place brand strategy and stakeholder development strategy to support enhanced commercialisation and export opportunities for the region’s produce.
Our work established the framework to deliver the Southern Forests Region place brand experience on the ground. Developing the destination involves working closely with the people who live and operate businesses in the region to build on existing strengths, whilst leveraging ongoing opportunities to improve the visitor experience.
