Forrestfield North Structure Plan

CITY OF KALAMUNDA | Forrestfield, WA

THE
PLACE

The announcement of the Forrestfield Airport Rail Link in 2014 triggered the requirement for land known as Forrestfield North to transition from rural to urban and in 2016, the City of Kalamunda adopted the Forrestfield North District Structure Plan. A multi-faceted planning approach was required to create precinct-based structure plans over the 264 landholdings – balancing land use and connectivity objectives with long term needs of almost 100 landowners and the future community.

OUR
ROLE

Leading a multi-disciplinary team, element is producing three precinct-based structure plans and supporting management strategies, design guidelines and development contribution plans on behalf of the City. Complexity of the fragmented land ownership, diverse usage profile, major planned infrastructure and environmental significance has required expert engagement with diverse stakeholders. These include landowners, the community and future visitors, developers and infrastructure and environmental agencies.

OUTCOMES

Developing the precinct structure plans and associated strategies will guide creation of an urban form that transitions from urban to suburban, successfully balancing interfaces between land uses, particularly between current light industrial and future residential and civic uses. A key outcome of the structure planning will be the creation of an urban arrival point and civic space adjacent the train station, balancing higher order strategic planning with visitor and user group needs.
