Economic Transformation of Kalgoorlie City Centre (In Progress)

CITY OF KALGOORLIE-BOULDER | Kalgoorlie, WA

THE
PLACE

Transformation of the Kal City Centre, into a robust and sustainable regional centre is intended to reaffirm its position as both a gateway to the goldfields and Kalgoorlie’s heart of economic, cultural and physical activity. The new vision for Australia’s largest outback city centre has been facilitated through robust community and stakeholder engagement, with around 1,200 ideas generated and 14,000 people participating in the process.

OUR
ROLE

We are leading a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a strong vision and Place Plan for the Kalgoorlie City Centre – supported by transformation strategies and schematic design for key public spaces. With extensive community consultation and considerable exposure via an interactive online engagement platform, our role entails visioning and stakeholder strategy, place branding, activation strategy, planning, urban and landscape design.

OUTCOMES

We have developed a draft Place Plan reflecting the real aspirations of its community and key stakeholders through a new destination network across the city centre. The vision defines Kalgoorlie City Centre as the energetic centre of a strong region, creating a place which welcomes people, investment and Kalgoorlie’s diverse community. The resulting Place Plan sets out the vision for a City Centre that will unite the community and commerce through new experiences, attractions and special places for ‘Kal life’ to unfold.
