Brookfield Place Activation
At the heart of the Perth CBD, Brookfield Place heralded a new era of business and culture in the city. Home to BHP, Barrick Gold, Multiplex and PricewaterhouseCoopers as well as a selection of Perth’s best retailers, bars and restaurants, it set a new benchmark for mixed use precincts in our CBD, breathing new life into St Georges Terrace and forming new cross city connections.
Working across the full spectrum of planning, heritage and place unified a technical and creative response to a complex and iconic site. We delivered on Brookfield’s vision for this revolutionary project which entailed:
- Due diligence and development approvals;
- Integrating commercial and heritage drivers; and
- Delivering the inaugural place activation strategy and program, bringing together design, architecture, performance, art and events.
We continue to provide heritage and planning advisory services for the ongoing management of the precinct on behalf of Brookfield Properties.
We achieved approval for the project’s complex development application including major commercial development and heritage building refurbishment to enable pedestrian access and new public realm. The project resulted in the establishment of strategic partnerships with key tenants, retailers and government stakeholders. We established a regular place activation program to support retailers and attract visitors and have positioned Brookfield Place as one of Perth’s most desirable commercial and visitor destinations in the context of an emerging and increasingly competitive inner-city destination set.
This project won the 2013 Heritage Council of Western Australia award for Conservation and Adaptive Re-use.
