Bayswater Town Centre Structure Plan

CITY OF BAYSWATER | Bayswater, WA

THE
PLACE

Like many town centres, Bayswater is in a process of transition and re-invention, looking to attract new investment, respond to community needs, create a strong local heart, optimise the local train station and enable sensitive, context responsive infill opportunities.

It had attracted significant interest as a development proposition however without a structure plan, the strategic direction and intent for the town centre was not clear. This created community concern and divided sentiment as to what the future could look like.

OUR
ROLE

Diversifying and future-proofing the local economy, retaining a strong sense of history and character, leveraging the Forrestfield/Perth airport link and unifying stakeholders through a strong, shared vision. These were all the considerations at the forefront of our approach as lead consultant for the Bayswater Town Centre Structure Plan.

OUTCOMES

We delivered a holistic place-led scope encompassing stakeholder and community engagement, planning and design including:

  • a multifaceted stakeholder and community engagement program that facilitated constructive dialogue on all issues and the establishment of community and technical advisory groups;
  • creating a range of planning and development scenarios that acknowledged the range of community views and respected the centre’s historic character; and
  • development of the Structure Plan document and framework which is now working to enable a vibrant and sustainable town centre.
