The Project

Perth City Link is a dynamic new destination that embraces Perth’s lifestyle and character and is an important part in the overall program to revitalise the city, reconnecting the CBD with Northbridge for the first time in 100 years. Yagan Square has been designed as Perth City Link’s crowning feature – and has become one of our top public destinations.

Our Role

element pioneered a digital crowd sourced approach to community engagement for the DevelopmentWA (formerly MRA) to understand what a broad selection of the Perth community would like to see and do at Yagan Square. The inputs directly informed the development of a Place Plan for Yagan Square which guided public realm design, anchors and attractions as well as retail leasing vision.

Outcomes

Launched by the Premier of Western Australia, City Square Ideas (digital engagement tool) was a catalyst to transition DevelopmentWA’s previous engagement methodology into an interactive and industry leading online approach. Development of the Place Plan guided all facets of destination planning for Yagan Square including:

  • Activities, uses and functions;
  • Retail and commercial directions;
  • Place management and governance;
  • Events and programming; and
  • Brand and positioning.
