The Project

Completed in 2011, Claremont Quarter is now well established as a premier fashion and lifestyle destination, the first of Perth’s retail centres to integrate apartment living and destination qualities. The journey to achieve this was complex and multifaceted, involving significant community, stakeholder and government engagement and multiple planning scheme amendments. It also capitalised on the opportunity to embrace the much loved high streets of Bayview Terrace and St Quentins Avenue, as well as strengthening connections to Claremont Train Station.

Our Role

element worked with Hawaiian to deliver a community and stakeholder engagement program that informed redevelopment plans for the retail centre. Achieving the vision required considerable amendments to the Town of Claremont’s planning framework, including the scheme and planning policies. We also advised on land tenure, subdivision and compiled the major development application to achieve the desired mixed use outcome.

Outcomes

Our work entailed:

  • Design and delivery of a community and stakeholder engagement program;
  • Development of four Planning Scheme Amendments;
  • Advice on land tenure and subdivision, resulting in three subdivisions;
  • Guidance on and amendments to Local Planning Policies; and
  • Securing the major development approval delivering 128 dwellings and 14,000m2 of retail and commercial floor space.
